Hen Night and Stag Night

The ceremonies of the hen weekends and the stag do are a tradition which has been followed by us for almost a decade. It is said that the Spartans were the first who started this tradition. The military comrades held greats as stag nights, in honor of the groom before the wedding night.

The hen night which is for the bride and her friends to enjoy occurs before the night of the wedding day. The term ‘hen night’ is used in countries like the United Kingdom, Australia and Ireland while the term bachelorette party is used in the United States of America. The hen night is made after following the rules of the stag night except here the bride enjoys the last day before tying the knot. The origin of the word ‘hen night’ comes from North Africa, Middle Eastern and Asian cultures and the term is derived from the word henna which is included in all these cultures. In the Middle East, it is said that henna has the power to purify the bride from everything before the wedding.

The stag is also referred in many different names by the people in different parts of the world. The word stag weekends or party is used in UK, Canada and Ireland while bachelor party is used in the US and bucks party in Australia. This party is held for the groom to enjoy his last night of freedom before getting married. Many tricks are pulled on the groom that night and heavy drinking is involved all on the groom’s expense.

The history of the stag night goes over to the fifth century while the hen night was properly introduced after the 1960s sexual revolution. it was in traduced on a massive scale to show that both man and woman had equal rights over their life.
